For several years now, I've been building a fictional world, based on the idea that there could be a perfect place, where people got along, there was true equality and shame did not exist. Body taboos were unheard of and people were free to express their sexuality without judgment. All this, while at the same time trying to defend this idyllic society from the evils and monsters populating the outside world, and trying to get along with neighbouring cultures who have other ideas.

In this world, my friends and I have spent many hours exploring and fighting in games of Dungeons and Dragons. Over the years, the world I created has taken on a life of it's own. It has become detailed and rich, with a long history of intrigue, mysteries, disasters and triumphs.

It all began with a map, as many fantasy worlds do. I was just playing around to see if I could make a map on the computer. It turned out fairly well (I'll show it to you in a future post, I promise), so I started adding Cities and such. One of these was nestled at the mouth of a river in a bay. It would be a perfect location for a city, so I went on to thinking what would be the perfect city in my mind. Then, knowing that all worlds must have some tension, I gave it a neighbouring city with less liberated views, farther up the same river. There's always tension due to the social clash and the second city's utter reliance on the first, as the one in control of access to the sea from the river for trade.

I've always wanted to be an author, ever since reading Stephen King, Orson Scot Card (Including his book on how to write Sci-Fi and Fantasy), Robert Heinlein, any D&D novel I could find and more. Recently I realized that my world was ready to be made into novels. Some kind of critical mass was hit, and the details and ideas of the world kept leading to new ideas, which led to still more ideas, and so forth. The world had come alive in my mind and was screaming to be let out onto the page.

So here goes.

Welcome to my journey. I hope you come along for the ride.

A scene from chapter four.
